Bendigo Law Courts and Former Police Station
RBA worked in collaboration with Billard Leece Partnership who were appointed to expand and update the facilities of the Bendigo Law Courts in order to sustain the viability of its current (and original) use into the future. To this end, the redundant 1980s Police Station building at the rear of the Bendigo Law Courts was redeveloped to accommodate the much needed expansion of court facilities including a Justice Service Centre and facilities for the Magistrates’ Court.
RBA provided advice to minimise the heritage impacts of the redevelopment on the surrounding heritage context prior to preparing a Heritage Impact Statement as part of the permit application to Heritage Victoria. RBA also assisted with conservation works.
The completed works have enabled the continued compatible and sustainable use of the Law Courts for court purposes while retaining and respecting the site’s heritage significance.
